The estates
The terroir
Land of vineyards located between 350 and 550 m above sea level and characterized by a dry Mediterranean climate and low rainfall (between 350 and 450 mm/year). Land with great sunshine and in balance between the two prominent winds: the Cerç, which comes from the interior, and the Garbí or sea wind.
The “Catalan Tuscany”
Its landscape maintains all the characteristic features of an inland area close to the Mediterranean Sea: pre-coastal limestone mountain ranges (Ports d’Horta, Serres de Pàndols i Cavalls), small rivers (l’Algars i el Canaletes), mountains of conglomerate rock, forests of holm oak and white pine and above all, agricultural soils of almond trees, vineyards and olive trees. Within this framework, three landscape units of clearly differentiated agricultural interest must be added: La Plana, l’Altiplà i les Valls. The landscape amalgam of limestone mountain ranges, pine and holm oak forests, almond trees, olive trees and vineyards have made it seen as the Catalan Tuscany.
DO Terra Alta, vernaxa territory
Humility, passion and hard work are what define the farmers of Terra Alta, where around 1,300 winegrowers work almost 6,000 hectares of vineyards with native grape varieties such as Grenache Blanc, Grenache Noir and Grenache Peluda, Macabeu, Carignan and others such as Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot and Tempranillo.
Currently, 33% of the total world production of Grenache Blanc is grown in Terra Alta, 75% of the production in Spain and 90% in Catalonia. Of this 33% of the cultivation in Terra Alta, 70% is produced in the municipality of Batea.
Biosphere Reserve
We make our wines with natural products, we work with alternative energies, which we monitor with an energy saving study, and all of this has allowed us to be part of the Terres de l’Ebre action plan, which accredits us as an entity affiliated with the “Vins EbreBiosfera” Biosphere Reserve.
